Andrew Drain is the Technology Development Lead at Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB), based in Phnom Penh Cambodia. Andrew currently leads and supports projects in Cambodia, Indonesia, Timor Leste, Vanuatu, and Australia as well as leading the development of a new human-centred engineering approach at EWB. Andrew’s focus is on the design of assistive technologies for people with disability and medical technology in resource-constrained environments. Andrew also focuses on improving how engineers and designers can work collaboratively and ethically with local communities in a range of contexts. Andrew has a Ph.D. in Engineering (focused on collaborative approaches to humanitarian technology development) and a B.Eng in Product Design Engineering. Andrew has a background in product and international development and has worked in the fields of academia, medical device design, and commercial product development.

Elizabeth B. -N Sanders. As an Associate Professor in Design at The Ohio State University (OSU), Liz Sanders’ focus is on facilitating transdisciplinary learning experiences and co-creation practices for addressing the significant challenges we face today. She introduced many of the tools, techniques, and methods being used today to inspire design from a human-centered perspective. Her research at OSU focuses on collective creativity and transdisciplinarity. Liz has a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology with a minor in Quantitative Psychology as well as a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Anthropology. Liz is also the founder of MakeTools, a company that explores new spaces in the emerging design landscapes. She has been engaged as a design research consultant in industry for over 30 years. Some of her clients have included Apple, AT&T, Coca Cola, Compaq, GE, IBM, Intel, Johnson Controls, Kodak, Microsoft, Motorola, Procter & Gamble, Roche Diagnostics, Steelcase, Thermos, 3M, and Xerox.
